THE PROJECT
The Bookcase for Tolerance is an award-winning augmented reality (AR) experience developed by the Anne Frank House. It allows users to explore the personal stories of Anne Frank and four individuals facing discrimination today by stepping into their carefully recreated living spaces. Using photogrammetry, real-world environments were transformed into detailed 3D spaces, preserving authenticity while enhancing the emotional impact of the storytelling.

MY CONTRIBUTION
For this project, I was responsible for recreating the iconic bookcase and designing the binders holding the stories of all five individuals. I've created most of the items of interest and contributed to the photogrammetry process — refining 3D models for performance and visual quality while ensuring they remained true to their real-world counterparts. This involved cleaning up raw scans, optimizing geometry for AR performance, and enhancing textures to create a more immersive and lifelike experience.
AWARDS
The Bookcase for Tolerance has been widely recognized for its innovative use of technology in promoting education and inclusion. In 2022, it won two Webby Awards for Best Use of Augmented Reality and Diversity & Inclusion. This project stands as a testament to the power of digital storytelling in fostering empathy and combating discrimination.
