MY CONTRIBUTION
3D Swirl is an ad format by Google — an innovative way for brands to captivate audiences through interactive 3D experiences. Through persistence and resourcefulness, I became an expert on how the format worked, ensuring every Swirl ad we produced was optimized for maximum impact despite its technical constraints.
Creating models for 3D Swirl came with significant challenges. Each ad had to stay under 3MB, requiring careful balancing of detail, performance, and a smooth, high-end visual experience. Additionally, the implementation process for 3D models had very limited flexibility, making it difficult for developers and 3D artists to achieve the desired visuals. Overcoming these obstacles demanded creative problem-solving and a deep understanding of both the platform’s behavior and its limitations. For instance, I devised a method to reposition the automatically generated pivot point, ensuring it could be aligned correctly with the intended center of attention. I mastered the technical workarounds so well that Google asked me to create a tutorial for new collaborators, helping them reach the same high standard in their ads.The project was a lot of fun because —despite the challenges— overcoming these constraints was exciting and rewarding, especially when the result was stunning, engaging, and immersive.
